Wife of Boko Haram’s factional leader dies after heavy pounding by Nigeria’s military

by - Damboi on - January 07, 2018
The wife of Mamman Nur, the factional leader of Boko Haram, is reportedly among the many members of the group that were killed in the Lake Chad region after a heavy bombardment by the Nigerian military, reports have said.
The military said she died in the confrontation that got her husband severely injured.
Premium Times quotes the spokesperson of the Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Onyema Nwachukwu, as saying at least 250 Boko Haram fighters on the side of Mamman Nur (Albarnawi camp) surrendered.
The statement reportedly warned residents of Kano, Yobe and Jigawa states to be vigilant as some of the dislodged Boko Haram fighters have moved to the border villages in those areas.
“About 250 foot soldiers from the Albarnawy camp have surrendered to Nigerien authorities due to the devastating artillery and aerial bombardments by Operation Lafiya Dole troops.
“Many of the insurgents who fled the onslaught are now taking advantage of the ‘AMNESTY’ offered by the Nigerien government by surrendering to Nigerien Forces,”he said, adding that“fleeing from the ongoing offensive are senior and junior commanders in the Albarnawy faction who are now attempting to melt into other communities in and around Kano, Geidam and Gashua axis unnoticed. “Members of the general public, particularly in Kano, Geidam, Gashua, Hadeja and the northern part of Jigawa are therefore enjoined to be vigilant and watch out for strange faces suddenly appearing in their communities and promptly report same to security agencies.”
HAVE IT ALL earlier reported how the Nigerian army recorded tremendous successin its fight against the Boko Haram insurgency.
According to a fresh report from army's spokesperson, SK Usman, the troops on Operation Lafiya Dole on the night of Friday, January 5, attacked a Boko Haram hideout.

950 Boko Haram fighters surrender in Borno.

by - Damboi on - January 07, 2018
As a result of continued military onslaught in the Lake Chad region, in which factional Boko Haram Leader Mamman Nur has been reported injured and one of his wives killed, about 950 fighters from two faction of the Boko Haram sect have surrendered.
Army Spokesman at the Theatre Command in Maiduguri, Col. Oyenma Uwachukwu, said in a statement he issued yesterday, that about 250 foot soldiers from the Albarnawy camp have crossed the border to Niger Republic and surrendered to that country’s authorities.
This, he said, was an outcome of “devastating artillery and aerial bombardments by troops of Operation Lafiya Dole.”
“Many of the insurgents who fled the onslaught are now taking advantage of the ‘amnesty’ offered by the Nigerien government by surrendering to Nigerien Forces,” he said.
“Additionally, about 700 insurgents have also surrendered to troops in the general area of Monguno following troops’ clearance operations,” he said.
The statement was however silent on the whereabouts or status of the injured Mamman Nur, who has a N25 million bounty on his head since September 2011 following his involvement in the UN building bombing in Abuja.
Nur has been prominent in the sect’s hierarchy and, aside from planning the UN bombings, is also believed to have masterminded the breakaway of the Khalid Albarnawi faction of the sect from that led by Abubakar Shekau in 2014.
At the beginning of the week, 700 men, women and children escaped Boko Haram’s captivity in some Lake Chad Island’s where they have been held as farm labourers.
The army claimed that the civilians regained their freedom as a result of the success of its Operation Deep Punch II, which it said decimated Boko Haram’s positions in the area.
On Thursday, the military announced that it had rescued over 2,000 persons from the group’s captivity in operations in the Lake Chad region.
The Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Rogers Nicholas, disclosed this during his press briefing at Military and Command Centre, Maiduguri on Thursday, saying that many Boko Haram fighters were killed in the operations.
Yesterday Army spokesman Col. Uwachukwu said their continued onslaught on the violent sect has resulted in the insurgents fleeing out of the region and those who could not make it to Niger Republic to accept the ‘amnesty’ programme there are attempting to flee into other states in Nigeria.
“Among the insurgents fleeing from the on-going offensive are senior and junior commanders in the Albarnawy faction who are now attempting to melt into other communities in and around Kano, Geidam and Gashua axis unnoticed.

DROGBA TO REPLACE EMENALO AS CHELSEA'S SPORTING DIRECTOR

.The departure of Nigerian Chelsea Technical Director, Michael Emenalo could lead to the sensational return of Didier Drogba to the club.
The Blues were shocked this week when Emenalo decided to walk away from his position, ending his 10-year association with the club.
The Telegraph report that the former striker could be lured back to Stamford Bridge in some capacity.
The man who scored the winning penalty when Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012 has spoken in the past of a desire to return to the club at some point.
However, whether he could be convinced by owner Roman Abramovich to return at this moment is unclear.
The 39-year-old is currently at Phoenix Rising in a player-owner capacity and plans to switch to a sporting director role there when he stops playing.

BIAFRA: IPOB LAUNCHES HAUSA RADIO SERVICE.

by - Damboi on - January 05, 2018
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) on Thursday announced the launch of its Hausa Radio Service.
This announcement was contained in a statement by its spokesman, Emma Powerful.
It said the maiden daily broadcast will hit the airwaves on Saturday, the 6th of January, 2018 at 7PM Nigerian time on Short Wave 15110 KHz 19 Meter Band.
The statement reads: "In keeping with our promise to facilitate the creation of an unbiased informative platform to take the message of liberation to the down trodden and oppressed indigenous populations of Northern Nigeria, we the family members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) worldwide and it's indomitable leadership, wish to happily announce the official launch of the much anticipated IPOB sponsored Radio Nigeria Hausa Service.
Quote
"The broadcast will have the widest coverage of any radio signal in Africa. It will be received all over West, East and Southern Africa. Every Hausa speaking community in Africa will be able to receive it. In our opinion, we feel it has become imperative to educate the poor masses of Northern Nigeria. The ruling class cleverly enslaved and impoverished ethnic populations of the North by keeping vital information and knowledge away from them. This information deficit is what Radio Nigeria Hausa Service has come to remedy.
"All the hitherto hidden history of the conquest of indigenous Hausa speaking populations of the North will be laid bare for the world to know. More importantly, enslaved minorities of Arewa North, brutally savaged by Fulani terrorist herdsmen, through this unbiased platform, will acquire the necessary education needed to liberate them from the suffocating stranglehold of the caliphate born to rule class.
"What we hope to demonstrate through the launch of this liberation radio station is to prove beyond every conceivable doubt that IPOB is not a selfish movement concerned only about the well-being of Biafrans, but are also genuinely concerned about the plight of all oppressed people in Nigeria as stated by our leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu on countless occasions. Regardless of ethnicity, religion or creed, IPOB is pursuing an agenda of freedom for all. Our message is very simple, 2018 will be like no other in the history of Nigeria and will prove to be the year of liberation for those brave enough to confront the evil that Nigeria has become in the lives of millions of people.
"Our quest for the total and adulterated liberation of Biafraland is unstoppable; this we shall demonstrate in the coming months. Those deluding themselves with the laughable and perverse notion that IPOB has been weakened because of the absence of our leader is in for an almighty shock. This move today is the beginning of a mass revolution against our oppressors that will spread outside the borders of Biafraland.
"The coming of this new and revolutionary Radio Nigeria Hausa Service will expose centuries old dark secrets through education of the oppressed Hausa Fulani youths that IPOB and Biafra mean well for them contrary to the lies being peddled by their corrupt leadership. We will not fail to let all Northern youths understand that their political leaders, elders and fathers like those in Biafraland are the real oppressors that over the years have kept them in the dark through a carefully crafted and systematic regime of misinformation and propagation of falsehood. Every Hausa speaking Northerner is advised to tune into 15110 KHz every night at 7PM, starting from this Saturday 6 January 2018, to be educated in order to be liberated."

EFCC REVEALS AMOUNT RECOVERED IN TWO YEARS

by - Damboi on - January 04, 2018
Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, has given insight into the amount recovered by the agency in the last two years.
He spoke at a meeting with Dr. Nassar Abaalkhail, Head of International Collaboration, National Anti-Corruption Commission, Saudi Arabia.
The meeting was sequel to a paper delivered by Magu on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, at the ongoing 7th Session of Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption holding in Vienna, Austria.
In his presentation, Magu who was a panelist at the Implementation Review Group attended by over 100 delegates, detailed the Nigerian efforts in asset recovery, including the progress in cases related to Abacha loot, Malabu Oil, Diezani & Associates and the Arms procurement scandal.
He said the efforts cut across Switzerland, USA, UK, UAE, Jersey Island and Panama.
According to him, EFCC monetary recoveries from May 2015 to October 20, 2017 was in excess of N738.9 billion which is equivalent to over $2.9 billion.
"This does not include smaller currencies in other currencies like Durham and CRA", he added.
"Within this year alone, the Commission recovered stolen assets running into several millions of US Dollars and billions in naira.
"This include the sum of $43 million recovered from Deziani Allison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum and N2 billion spread in seven accounts within three Nigerian banks laundered from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Salary Accounts", he explained.
In his recommendations, Magu sought for improved coordination and cooperation among State parties in asset recovery through the consideration and adoption of measures that will remove traditional barriers such as bank secrecy consistent with Article 46(8) and dual criminality Article 46(9) as well as simplify legal technicalities in the recovery and repatriation of stolen funds.
He further sought for measures to reduce cost of recovery of assets for developing countries and ensure speedy return of all stolen assets to victim States in line with the current resolution sponsored by Nigeria.
Magu also urged for sanction and prosecution of any financial institution that violates AML/CFT measures and the maintenance of a public register on beneficial ownership.

EKITI ASSEMBLY APPROVES DEATH PENALTY FOR CULTISTS

by - Damboi on - January 04, 2018
A bill seeking to prohibit the activities of secret cults scaled third reading at the Ekiti State House of Assembly on Tuesday.
The substance of the bill is the prescription of the death penalty for those found guilty of breaching the law in that regard. Persons found guilty of aiding and abetting cultism would also bag life imprisonment. All that is left is for it to be signed into law by the governor.
The new provision was an amendment to the law against cultism, enacted by Ayo Fayose during his first tenure as governor of the state. The law had provided a seven-year imprisonment for anyone convicted of cult activities, whereas those aiding and abetting the act were to be imprisoned for five years.
The bill titled, 'Secret Cult (Abolition and Prohibition) [Amendment] Bill, 2017,' gained the lawmakers' attention following increase in cult activities at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti which led to the killing of students recently.
Before the passage, the House Leader, Akinyele Olatunji, recalled the killings at the university due to cult activities.
"We will not allow any group to turn Ekiti into death trap area," he said, while thanking the governor, Ayodele Fayose, for introducing the bill.
"We cannot fold our arms while some people would constitute themselves as a menace and eliminate the lives of innocent people of this state," speaker of the house, Kola Oluwawole, said, while making his remarks on the bill.
"It is an everlasting sorrow for someone to lose his child or relative. The bill will reshape the lives of our youth. It will 'touch' those who intend to join any secret cults and those who have the intention to take another person’s life.
"Those people that we are representing will have peace of mind that their lives and those of their children are safe. The bill considers very seriously the negative consequences of such action because of the irreparable loss of lives."

Romero joined Manchester United in 2015 under former manager Louis Van Gaal, and last season, he was regular as he helped the Red Devils to win the Europa League title.

In June 2017, Sergio Romero signed a new contract at Old Trafford which will expire in the year 2021.
This season, Romero has been unable to force his way into the United team ahead of De Gea making just six Premier League appearances. And according to the Independent, the Argentine goalie has told United he wants to leave the club even as the Red Devils's boss Jose Mourinho wants him to stay.
Argentine giants Racing Club are now said to be interested in the signing of Sergio Romero, and the club have reportedly promised him a regular shirt at the club.

FG may increase Abuja-Kaduna rail fares - Amaechi

by - Damboi on - January 04, 2018
- Rotimi Amaechi has disclosed that the federal government may increase the transport fares of the rail services on the Abuja-Kaduna route
- The minister stated that when prices of tickets are increased, there would be more comfort
- He also disclosed that commuters had already agreed to the plan, as he claimed that they had indicated that current costs were too cheap
The minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, says the federal government may increase the transport fares of the rail services on the Abuja-Kaduna route, following the inauguration of 10 new luxurious coaches, NAN reports.
Ameachi announced this when he fielded questions from State House correspondents after a closed door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Tuesday, January 2.
HAVE IT ALL gathers that Amaechi stated that commuters have agreed that the cost of transportation to Kaduna via the rail service is a bit too cheap.
The minister, who said he discussed the inauguration of the 10 new coaches and two locomotives with the president, revealed that the new coaches would be inaugurated on Thursday, January 4.
“The president is pleased with the arrangement because basically we will then be able to discharge the passengers pressure that we have had; that is why you have ticket racketeering.
“When demand outstrips supply, then you see all sorts of attempts to cheat the passengers.
“There are two things I know the president likes. I have mentioned one; the second one, is after commissioning, even the passengers agree that the cost of transportation to Kaduna via the railway is a bit too cheap.
“So there will be a need to increase the price and then there will be more comfort.
“More comfort in the sense that when you have excess seats multiplied by the number of passengers that will come, then anybody that wants to racketeer will have to eat the tickets himself,’’he added.
He stated that the new coaches, when inaugurated, would bring the total number of coaches to 14 on the Kaduna-Abuja route.
According to the minister, one of the locomotives will be dedicated to direct trips from Kaduna to Abuja non-stop (that should be doing 1hr:15 or 1hr:20 minutes non-stop).
He said this would enable those“living in Kaduna and working in Abuja to actually come to work on time. If you leave at 6.00a.m; by 7:15a.m, 7:20a.m you should be in Abuja.’’
Recall that HAVE IT ALL previously reported that the Abuja-Kaduna trains service had received a boostwith the arrival of 10 new coaches and two locomotives to be deployed by the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).
A source in Abuja disclosed that the new locomotives and coaches had been installed for test run ahead of their inauguration on January 15.
Rotimi Amaechi says he is busy on the streets.

Opinion: Fr. Mbaka and the voice of God by Reuben Abati

by - Damboi on - January 04, 2018
Editor's note:Now that we have entered a new year, pastors have began to share their prophecies and predictions. To most this marks the end of a year and the beginning of another in Nigeria.
In this article, a former spokesperson to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Reuben Abati, talks about his prophecy of interest from Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry, an evangelical arm of the Catholic Church based in Enugu.
“I do not believe in my mind that the way things are in Nigeria, any Catholic priest has the mandate to decide which of the political contestants should be voted for…I don’t believe a priest should be doing that…If he was in my archdiocese, I will have sanctioned him long ago for the kind of utterances he makes.”– John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Catholic Bishop of Abuja Metropolitan See on Fr. Ejike Mbaka (2015)
Prophecies and predictions by Christian pastors often mark the end of a year and the beginning of another in Nigeria…egged on by the media, looking for juicy material for their overtly religious and superstitious readers, these pastors sometimes overreach themselves as they dish out prophecies as if they were some kind of annual merchandise.
This year has not been different with interesting prophecies offered by Apostle Johnson Suleman, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Pastor Tunde Bakare, Catholic priest Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka and a host of others. What I find curious every year is that each pastor ends up saying something different from the other, whereas what we know is that there is only ONE GOD – absolute and indivisible.
The teleological concept of God is monotheistic, but today’s pastors in their prophecies convey a pantheistic concept of God: a God that speaks in many voices and forms, creating a dissonance which is then exploited by the media, as the year unfolds, measuring the prophecies against actual developments, to determine who, among the many prophets, is the true seer. This seeming retailing of prophecies in the public sphere should be a source of concern to the Church.
Of all the prophecies that I have read about this year, I find two particularly interesting. The first is the New Year Day declaration of Pastor Tunde Bakare before his congregation at the Latter Rain Assembly that God had just spoken to him not to leave politics, because he still has an assignment for him in the political arena. “God told me to run for president”, he announced.
When – he does not know but he tells the congregation to pray along with him. “When He tells me the time, you will hear about it.” It will be recalled that Pastor Tunde Bakare was the running mate to President Muhammadu Buhari on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) during the 2011 presidential election.
His decision at the time to go into politics was quite controversial, particularly amongst his Christian brethren who argued that a man of the cloth should not swim in the dirty and dirtied waters of Nigerian politics. The CPC lost the presidential election and Pastor Bakare returned to the pulpit.
He won’t be the first pastor to declare interest in the highest office in the land. Pastor Chris Okotie of the Household of God Church first ran for president in 2003 as a candidate of the Justice Party. Then he ran again in 2007 and again in 2011 on the platform of the FRESH Democratic Party. He lost on all occasions.
Yet each time Pastor Chris Okotie declared interest in the presidential office, he always said he had heard from God. Listening to his campaigns, he always sounded so sure that he had indeed been anointed by God to be president. In 2015, God apparently did not speak to Pastor Okotie because he did not bother to join the race.
Do Pastors Okotie and Bakare, both learned men, hear the voice of the same God? Is it possible for God to anoint two of his servants as Nigerian president at the same time? For, indeed, when Pastor Bakare’s critics opposed his decision to go into politics, his stoutest defence in 2011 was that he had heard the voice of God, and that the voice of God is superior to that of man.
He quoted the Scriptures: Psalm 78: 70, 71; Romans 13:1. We, lesser mortals, may probably not fully understand the ways of God and the prophetic Ministry but the clergy must resist the temptation, unwitting temptation may be, to project God in negative light. The doctrine is that the omniscient God, the I-am-that-I-am that we know, never plays politics with His words. He does not contradict Himself. He keeps His promises.
The second prophecy of interest is from Rev. Fr. Camillus Ejike Mbaka of the Adoration Ministry, an evangelical arm of the Catholic Church based in Enugu. In recent years, Fr. Mbaka seems to have turned himself into a spiritual authority on presidential politics in Nigeria. A prophet since his primary school days, by his own declaration, Mbaka now tells Nigerians who should be president.

- The 2018 appropriation bill presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate would not passed soon - Senator Solomon Adeola says the bill would not be passed soon because ministries and parastatals refused to do a their job thoroughly - He also insisted that the legislators will not allow itself to be a rubber stamp for the executive Senator Solomon Adeola, chairman, Senate House Committee on Local Content, has given reasons why the 2018 appropriation bill presented by President Muhammadu Buhari to the Senate would not passed. According to the legislator who represents Lagos West at the Senate, the Upper House may not pass the budget until March or April, 2018. Adeola, however, absolved the Senate of delaying the passage of the proposed 2018 budget. He accused ministries and departments of refusing to submit documents necessary for passage of the bill, Vanguard reports. Adeola said this on Wednesday, January 3 in Ilaro, at the sideline of the end-of-year get-together organised for members and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He argued that the Senate would not allow itself to be a rubber stamp for the executive

“Let me make some clarification on the issue of the budget. As you can see the last time, we’re trying to work round the clock to ensure that by 31st of December 2017, if possibly for the first time, in our nation’s history we can pass the budget in a record time.
"But as it were, documentation and facts and figures that we need to buttress all items of transaction both in the recurrent and capital expenditure as contained in that particular document is not given to us by these ministries and the lackadaisical attitude of the various agencies of the government, both the ministries and parastatals, is nothing to write home about.
“Because, it is when they are prepared to defend these documentation, those figures as contained in that document that we can be looking at the record time in passing this budget. Since we don’t have all these documentation and the figures to work with, it will be difficult for us as a National Assembly. We can’t be rubber stamp.
"The power of the purse is the power that resides with us as the legislature. Yes, the government has submitted their document, their proposal, their policy in numerical term called budget.
“But we have the option to look at these issues critically and analysed if the N7 or N8trillion budget as proposed by the president is achievable or not. And that can only be done if the right documentation, figures are given to us.
“The MTEF had their issues; we are able to overcome the issue of MTEF – the Medium Term Expenditure Framework which we have since passed at the National Assembly.
“But if we are going to pass 2018 budget in a record time, there is need for us to know the performance of 2017 budget. We cannot be pre-emptive. We need to look at the performance upon which we can predicate whatever we are doing with the 2018 budget upon.
"And if all these documentations are not given to us, there is little or nothing we can do as a National Assembly.
“So, we are hoping the Executive takes this seriously, then look inward and ensure that all necessary documentation that will assist the National Assembly in considering this budget before us should be forwarded to us so that we can work round the clock and give Nigeria this document in a record time maybe by March or April this year,”the senator said.

Meanwhile HAVE IT ALL had reported that the Nigerian government denied allegation that the 2018 budget recently presented to the National Assemblyby the Presidency was padded.
HAVE IT ALL reports that the federal government said the allegations were spurious and mischievous.
A top government official who spoke on the allegations said the performance of the 2017 budget was affected by some ‘unforeseen and extraneous factors’.
The official who pleaded anonymity however did not say who caused or created the factors. The official said: “The perceived poor implementation of the 2017 budget is not as a result of lack of capacity but because of unforeseen and extraneous factors.

Oil marketers finally agree to sell petrol at N145 per litre

by - Damboi on - January 04, 2018
- Oil marketers have agreed to sell petrol at N145 per litre
- They however asked the government to provide them with incentives when they start importation
- They said this would help them cut cost
Oil marketers have reportedly agreed to sell petrol at the pump price of N145 per litre.
This is in reverse of an earlier decision made that it was not economically viable for them to sell at the price.
The Punch reports that during the meeting of the ad hoc committee set up by the presidency to get the oil marketers to restart the importation of fuel, they agreed to sell N145 per litre.

Sources at the meeting however said the marketers begged the federal government to“grant them tax holidays and other incentives that would help cut their costs when they resumed fuel importation.”
Also, it was reported that four sub-committees were constituted at the meeting and chaired by Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state for petroleum.
A source said:“Four sub-committees were inaugurated by the minister and we agreed on a price that is good for Nigerians, which of course, is the current price. All these and more will be in the communique that will be released soon."
Meanwhile, the Senate has denied claim that it is responsible for the delayin the payment of the debt owed oil marketers by government.
In a statement issued by the chairman, Senate committee on media and public affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi-Abdullahi, the upper chamber said claims reportedly made by Abba Kyari, the chief of staff to the president were not true.
The Senate said:“The attention of the Senate has been drawn to a claim said to have been made by the Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari, during a meeting with stakeholders in the oil industry on the perennial fuel scarcity in the country to the effect that the payment of debts owed oil marketers was being delayed because the National Assembly has not approved request presented to the legislature for a loan meant for that purpose.
“The Senate will want members of the public to know that no such request has been made to it specifically requesting for a loan meant for payment to oil marketers. The Senate is aware that subsidy on petrol had been cancelled by this administration, so we wonder which payment we are talking about now.
“Senators have been inundated with calls from oil marketers who were present at the meeting with the Chief of Staff to the President on the issue and thus, we call on Mallam Kyari to either prove his claim or retract it.”
“It should be noted that a similar claim was made by the Minister of Finance on the foreign loan at a time the Presidency had not forwarded the request. The letter requesting for the foreign loan was submitted long after she was confronted with the fact.”
Meanwhile, motorists in Katsina defied the severe cold condition to sleep in their vehiclesovernight to get petrol to buy at filling stations.
According to NAN, the long-suffering motorists have decided to sleep in fuel stations in order to purchase the scarce commodity.

HAVE IT ALL gathers that the fuel scarcity is biting harder in Katsina, and this has compelled motorists to join long queues for fuel.
